Color picker from screen
Press the button, click any pixel on your screen, even outside the browser window, and get its HEX, RGB and HSL values. Where the eyedropper is not available, use the manual picker.
Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
How to use it
- Press Pick a color from the screen. Your cursor turns into a magnifier.
- Click any pixel. The color appears with its HEX, RGB and HSL codes.
- Copy the format you need. Earlier colors stay in the history; click one to bring it back.
The history lives only in this page and disappears when you close it.
Without the eyedropper
Use the Color picker swatch to open your system’s color dialog, or type a HEX code (three or six digits, with or without #). The same three formats are shown.
- HEX:
#3b82f6, used in CSS and design tools.
- RGB:
rgb(59, 130, 246), the red, green and blue amounts from 0 to 255.
- HSL:
hsl(217, 91%, 60%), hue in degrees, saturation and lightness in percent.
Frequently asked questions
Which browsers support the eyedropper?
The EyeDropper API is available in Chromium-based desktop browsers such as Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge and Opera. Firefox and Safari do not offer it at the time of writing, and mobile browsers generally lack it. The button is only shown where the browser reports support.
Can it pick colors outside the browser window?
Yes. In supported browsers the eyedropper can sample any pixel on the screen, including other windows. The page only receives the one color you click, not a screenshot.
Why does the color look different from the original?
The picker returns the color as shown on screen, in sRGB. Color profiles, night mode, HDR and image compression can change what a pixel looks like compared with the source file.
What if my browser has no eyedropper?
Use the color field to choose a color by eye or type a HEX code. The result is converted to the same formats. For colors inside a photo, upload it to the image color picker.
