CSV viewer

Paste CSV text or open a file to see it as a table. Click a column heading to sort, type in the search box to filter rows, and let the tool detect whether the file uses commas, semicolons, tabs or pipes. Nothing is uploaded.

4 rows, 4 columns. Delimiter found: Comma.

Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Paste CSV into the box, or choose Open a file.
  2. Leave the delimiter on Detect, or pick it yourself if the columns look wrong.
  3. Untick the header option if the first row is data, not column names.
  4. Click a column heading to sort. Type in the search box to keep only rows with a matching cell.

How it works

The text is read by the RFC 4180 rules, so quoted fields can hold delimiters, line breaks and doubled quotes. Blank lines are skipped and short rows are padded with empty cells so every row has the same width. Searching ignores case and looks at all columns.

Example

For the sample above, searching for sao leaves one row. Sorting the population column ascending puts Sao Paulo first, because 22,000,000 is smaller than 37,400,000.

Tips

  • A file saved by a spreadsheet in some regions uses semicolons because the comma is the decimal mark there; Detect handles this.
  • If everything lands in one column, the delimiter is wrong or the file is not CSV.

Frequently asked questions

Which delimiters does the viewer understand?

Comma, semicolon, tab and pipe. With Detect selected, the tool counts each one in the first line, outside quotation marks, and picks the most common. If the guess is wrong, choose the delimiter by hand.

How does sorting work?

Click a heading to sort ascending, again for descending, and a third time to return to the original order. If both cells are numbers they are compared as numbers (9 before 10); otherwise they are compared as text with numbers inside the text in natural order (file2 before file10). Empty cells always go last.

What happens with a very large file?

The table draws at most the first 1,000 matching rows so that phones stay responsive. The search box and sorting still look at every row, and a note tells you how many are hidden. To work with the rest, narrow the search or use the CSV deduplicator or column tools.

Can it read quoted fields with commas and line breaks?

Yes. The reader follows RFC 4180: a field in double quotes may contain the delimiter, line breaks and doubled quotes ("").

Is my file uploaded?

No. The file is read by your browser and shown on the page. Nothing is sent to a server.
