UTM link builder
Enter a page address and your campaign details to get a tagged link ready for analytics. Existing query parameters and the #fragment are kept exactly as written, values are percent-encoded, and the tool warns about spaces, mixed case and missing parameters.
Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
How to use it
- Paste the full address of the landing page.
- Fill in source, medium and campaign, and term or content if you need them.
- Copy the tagged URL. For several channels switch on “Several sources at once”, list one source per line and copy all the links.
How it works
The tool splits the address into the part before ?, the query and the #fragment. It removes old utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, utm_term and utm_content pairs, keeps the other parameters untouched and appends the new ones with encodeURIComponent, so a space becomes %20 and & becomes %26.
Example: https://example.com/pricing?plan=pro with source newsletter, medium email and campaign spring_sale becomes https://example.com/pricing?plan=pro&utm_source=newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=spring_sale.
Tips
- Agree on names with your team:
email, not Email and e-mail.
- Use the same medium for the same kind of channel, for example
cpc for paid clicks.
- Shorten long tagged links with a link shortener, or put them in a QR code.
Frequently asked questions
What are UTM parameters?
UTM parameters are tags added to the end of a link, such as utm_source=newsletter. Analytics tools read them when someone clicks and credit the visit to that source, medium and campaign.
Which parameters are required?
Fill in source, medium and campaign name: analytics reports group visits by these three. Term and content are optional: term is for paid search keywords, content for telling two links in the same campaign apart.
Does the tool break links that already have a query string?
No. Existing parameters and the #fragment stay exactly as typed. The new utm_ parameters are appended to the query, and the fragment stays at the very end.
Should I use lowercase?
Usually yes. Reports treat values as case-sensitive, so Newsletter and newsletter would be listed as two sources. The lowercase option keeps them consistent.
Should I use UTM tags on links inside my own site?
It is best not to. A UTM-tagged internal link can start a new session and overwrite the real source of the visit. Use them for links that bring people from outside.
