JSON to HTML table

Paste a JSON array and get an HTML table. Object keys become the header cells, missing values become empty cells, and every value is escaped so it is safe to paste into a page.

Columns
Indent

3 body rows, 3 columns.

Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Paste a JSON array into the input.
  2. Choose whether the header uses every key or only those of the first object, and the indentation.
  3. Turn thead and tbody on if you want the semantic sections.
  4. Copy the HTML.

How it works

The input is parsed as JSON and checked for a table shape. Header cells (th) come from the keys, or from the first inner array. Each following item becomes a row of td cells; every row is padded to the width of the table. Values are converted to text and HTML-escaped before they are placed in the cells.

Example

[{"a":1,"b":"Tom & Jerry"},{"a":2}] gives a header with a and b, a first row with 1 and Tom & Jerry, and a second row with 2 and an empty cell.

Tips

  • Use All keys when objects differ; use the first object’s keys to ignore extra fields.
  • For spreadsheets, the JSON to CSV converter is the better fit.

Frequently asked questions

What JSON shapes are accepted?

An array of objects (keys become the header), an array of arrays (the first inner array becomes the header row), or a single object, which gives a table with one body row.

How are missing keys and nested values handled?

With All keys, the header lists every key found, in order of first appearance, and an object without a key gets an empty cell. A nested object or array is written into its cell as compact JSON text. null also gives an empty cell.

Is the output safe to paste into a page?

Text is escaped: &, <, >, double quotes and single quotes become entities, so a value like <b>Temples</b> is shown literally instead of being treated as markup.

Does it add classes or CSS?

No. The table is plain markup, so you can style it with your own CSS. The HTML table generator offers captions, classes and ready-made styles if you need them.

Is my data uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser.
