  • Overtime pay = overtime rate × overtime hours
  • Total = regular pay + overtime pay; average = total ÷ all hours

Half hours can be entered as decimals: 7 hours 30 minutes is 7.5.

Frequently asked questions

How is overtime pay calculated?

Overtime rate = hourly rate × multiplier, and overtime pay = overtime rate × overtime hours. At 20 an hour with time and a half, overtime pays 30 an hour; 10 hours earn 300 on top of regular pay.

What multiplier should I use?

1.5 (time and a half) is the usual figure for hours beyond the normal working week in many places, and 2 (double time) is common for holidays or very long days. Rules differ by country, state and contract, so check yours.

What counts as overtime?

That depends on your law and agreement: for example hours over a weekly or daily limit. This calculator does not decide that; enter the regular and overtime hours yourself.

Does the result include tax?

No. It is gross pay before tax and deductions. The average pay per hour is total pay divided by all hours worked.
