How to use it

  1. Enter ad spend and the revenue attributed to it.
  2. Add impressions, clicks and conversions if you have them; empty fields are skipped.
  3. Enter your profit margin to see break-even ROAS and profit.

How it works

  • ROAS = revenue ÷ spend; as a percentage it is ROAS × 100.
  • CPA = spend ÷ conversions; CPM = spend ÷ impressions × 1,000; CPC = spend ÷ clicks.
  • CTR = clicks ÷ impressions; conversion rate = conversions ÷ clicks; order value = revenue ÷ conversions.
  • Break-even ROAS = 100 ÷ margin; profit = revenue × margin − spend.

Worked example

Spend 1,000, revenue 4,000, 200,000 impressions, 4,000 clicks, 100 orders, 40% margin. ROAS 4×, CPA 10, CPM 5, CPC 0.25, CTR 2%, conversion rate 2.5%, order value 40. Break-even ROAS is 2.5×; profit after ads is 1,600 − 1,000 = 600.

Tips

  • Judge ROAS against margin, not alone: a high ROAS on a thin margin can still lose money.
  • Use the same period for spend and revenue.
  • Results are estimates, not financial advice.

Frequently asked questions

What is ROAS?

Return on ad spend is revenue divided by ad spend. A ROAS of 4 means 4 of revenue for every 1 spent. It counts revenue, not profit.

What is break-even ROAS?

The ROAS at which the ads exactly cover themselves once your costs are paid: 1 ÷ profit margin. With a 40% margin it is 2.5. Below that you lose money on each sale.

How are CPA, CPM, CPC and CTR defined?

CPA = spend ÷ conversions. CPM = spend ÷ impressions × 1,000. CPC = spend ÷ clicks. CTR = clicks ÷ impressions. Conversion rate here = conversions ÷ clicks.

What is a good ROAS?

It depends on margins, product and channel. Compare it with your break-even ROAS rather than a general benchmark.

Is this financial advice?

No. It is arithmetic on the figures you enter; attribution in ad platforms can differ from your own records.
