How to use it

  1. Type the word. Each letter becomes a tile with its value.
  2. Tap a tile to cycle it through DL, TL, DW, TW and the blank states, matching the squares it covers.
  3. Tick the seven-tile box if it applies and add points from any other words you formed.

How the score is built

  1. Each tile’s value is doubled for DL or tripled for TL. A blank counts 0.
  2. The tile points are added up.
  3. The sum is multiplied by 2 for every DW and 3 for every TW.
  4. The 50-point bonus and other words’ points are added last, with no multiplier.

Worked example

QUIZ with Z on a double letter and U on a double word: Q 10 + U 1 + I 1 + Z 10 × 2 = 32, and 32 × 2 = 64. A word covering both DW and TW is multiplied by 6.

Tips

  • A bonus square only counts on the turn a tile is first placed on it, so leave tiles that were already on the board at No bonus.
  • Blank states are separate from DL and TL because a blank is worth 0 either way.

Frequently asked questions

What are the standard English letter values?

A, E, I, O, U, L, N, S, T and R are 1 point. D and G are 2. B, C, M and P are 3. F, H, V, W and Y are 4. K is 5. J and X are 8. Q and Z are 10. A blank tile is worth 0.

How do letter and word bonus squares combine?

Double letter (DL) and triple letter (TL) squares multiply only the letter on them. The letter points are added up, then the sum is multiplied by 2 for each double word (DW) square and 3 for each triple word (TW) square the word covers. Two word squares multiply together, so DW and TW give ×6.

Do bonus squares count more than once?

In the usual rules a square only counts on the turn a tile is first placed on it. If your word uses tiles already on the board, leave those tiles on No bonus.

How is the 50-point bonus added?

Using all seven tiles from your rack in one turn adds a flat 50 points after the multipliers. Tick the box to include it.

How do blank tiles score?

A blank is worth 0, so a letter square does nothing for it, but a word square under a blank still multiplies the whole word. Cycle a tile to Blank DW or Blank TW for that case.
