How to use it

  1. Enter the capacity of the container and your fill level.
  2. Choose the wax and the fragrance load.
  3. Enter the number of candles in the batch.

How it works

Pour = capacity × fill × wax density × candles. Wax = pour ÷ (1 + fragrance load). Oil = wax × fragrance load. One US fluid ounce = 29.57 ml.

Worked example

A 240 ml jar poured to 85% with soy: 204 ml × 0.9 = 183.6 g. With a 6% load, wax = 183.6 ÷ 1.06 = 173.2 g and fragrance oil = 10.4 g.

Tips

  • Weigh wax and oil on a scale; volume measures are unreliable.
  • Do a test burn and watch for a full melt pool in a few hours.

Frequently asked questions

What densities are used?

About 0.9 g/ml for soy and paraffin and 0.96 g/ml for beeswax in liquid form. Blends differ, so treat these as typical values and weigh a test jar of yours with water for comparison.

How full should I pour?

Leave room at the top, since the flame needs space and the candle needs to sit below the rim. About 85–90% of the capacity is common.

How is the fragrance load defined?

As a percentage of the wax weight. 6% of 100 g wax is 6 g of oil. Your wax maker states a maximum, often around 6–10%, which you should not exceed.

Does it pick a wick?

No. The right wick depends on the wax, the diameter of the container and the fragrance, so use your wick supplier's chart and test burns.
