How to use it
- Choose batting or bowling.
- For batting, enter runs, innings, not outs and balls faced.
- For bowling, enter overs in scorecard form, runs conceded and wickets taken.
- Read the average and rate; outputs that cannot be defined (no dismissals, no wickets) stay empty.
The formulas
- Batting average = runs ÷ (innings − not outs)
- Batting strike rate = runs ÷ balls faced × 100
- Balls bowled = overs × 6 + balls of the unfinished over
- Economy = runs conceded × 6 ÷ balls bowled
- Bowling average = runs conceded ÷ wickets; bowling strike rate = balls bowled ÷ wickets
Worked example
A bowler with 40.3 overs, 200 runs, 10 wickets:
- balls = 40 × 6 + 3 = 243;
- economy = 200 × 6 ÷ 243 = 4.94;
- average = 200 ÷ 10 = 20; strike rate = 243 ÷ 10 = 24.3.
Tips
- Never divide by overs written as 40.3 directly: that would treat 3 balls as three tenths of an over.
- Compare averages within one format; Test, one-day and T20 figures differ a lot.
- For a team’s run rate in a chase, use the required run rate calculator instead.
