Speedcube timer
Scramble the cube with the moves shown, then hold the space bar (or touch the pad) until the clock turns ready and let go to start. Any key stops the timer. With inspection on, the first press starts a 15-second inspection, as in competitions. Your times, ao5, ao12 and best averages are kept in this browser only.
Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
How to use it
- Apply the scramble shown to a solved cube, reading the moves from left to right.
- Choose whether you want 15-second inspection.
- Hold the space bar until the clock shows ready, release to start, solve, then press any key.
- Mark a solve as +2 or DNF in the list if needed, or delete it with ×. A new scramble appears after every solve.
Notation
U, D, L, R, F and B are the up, down, left, right, front and back faces. A letter alone turns that face a quarter clockwise as you look at it; ’ (prime) turns it anticlockwise; 2 turns it half a turn.
Example of an average
Five solves: 12.00, 10.50, 11.25, 13.40 and DNF. The best (10.50) and the worst (the DNF) are dropped; the ao5 is (12.00 + 11.25 + 13.40) ÷ 3 = 12.21 (times are cut to hundredths, not rounded). With a second DNF in the five, the ao5 would be a DNF.
Tips
- Warm up with a few solves before you start counting a session.
- Track your best ao12 rather than single records: it shows real progress.
- If the space bar does not react, click an empty part of the page first; a button that has focus can take the key.
Frequently asked questions
How do I start and stop the timer?
Hold the space bar until the hint says ready (a short moment, so a brush of the key does not start it), then let go: the clock starts. Press any key to stop. On a phone or tablet, hold the timer panel and lift your finger; tap it to stop.
How does inspection work?
With inspection on, the first press and release starts a 15-second countdown in which you may look at the cube. Start the solve within 15 seconds; starting between 15 and 17 seconds adds 2 seconds, later is a DNF, as in WCA competition rules.
How are ao5 and ao12 calculated?
From the last 5 or 12 solves the best and the worst are dropped and the rest are averaged. A DNF counts as the worst result; with two DNFs in the set the average is a DNF.
Where are my times stored?
In the local storage of this browser on this device. Nothing is sent to a server. Clearing site data or using a private window removes them; the last 1,000 solves are kept.
Are the scrambles competition scrambles?
They are 20 random face turns in standard notation (U, D, L, R, F, B with ' and 2), with no move cancelling the previous ones. Official competitions use random-state scrambles from their own program; for practice random moves are fine.
