Online timer

Set any time or tap a preset, and the timer counts down in the browser. When it reaches zero you hear a short alarm and the tab title says the time is up.

05:00
Quick start

Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Tap a preset such as 5 min or 25 min to start straight away, or type hours, minutes and seconds.
  2. Press Start. Use Pause and Resume as needed, and Reset to go back to the set time.
  3. When the time is up, a short beep sounds (if enabled), the screen shows “Time’s up!” and the tab title changes so you notice it from another tab.

How it keeps accurate time

The timer stores the moment it should finish and, on every screen refresh, shows the difference between that moment and the current time. Browsers slow down scripts in background tabs, but because the end time is fixed, the countdown does not fall behind: when you come back, it shows the right time.

Ideas for presets

  • 1–3 minutes: brushing teeth, steeping tea, a plank.
  • 5–10 minutes: a short break, boiling eggs, a quick tidy-up.
  • 25 minutes: one Pomodoro work session, followed by a 5-minute break.
  • 45–90 minutes: a lesson, an exam section, a baking time.

Frequently asked questions

Does the timer keep running in a background tab?

Yes. It counts against the clock rather than counting ticks, so switching tabs or locking the screen does not slow it down. The remaining time is also shown in the tab title.

Why did I not hear the alarm?

Browsers only play sound after you have interacted with the page, and a muted tab or device stays silent. Start the timer with a click or tap and check the volume.

Can I set a timer for more than an hour?

Yes. Type the hours, minutes and seconds you need; there is no upper limit for practical use.

Does the timer work offline?

Once the page has loaded, the timer runs entirely in your browser and needs no connection.
