Anagram solver

Type the letters you have, with ? for a blank, and see the words they make. Choose anagrams that use every letter, or any word that can be built from some of them. It works offline from a built-in word list.

Find

Loading the word list…

Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Type your letters, for example listen, or ra?n? with two blanks.
  2. Choose Anagrams to use all of them, or Words from some letters and set the shortest word length.
  3. Results are grouped by length, longest first.

How it works

For each word in the list, the tool counts how many of each letter it needs. A word is possible when your letters cover those counts; any shortfall is paid for with blanks. In anagram mode the word must also be exactly as long as your set. Nothing is sent to a server; the list is loaded once by your browser.

Example

The letters listen give the anagram silent. With ra?n? (five tiles, two of them blanks), anagram mode finds five-letter words such as brain and train: the blanks stand for b and i in brain, and for t and i in train.

Tips

  • In Scrabble-style games, check the result against the dictionary your game uses.
  • To find rhymes rather than rearrangements, use the rhyme finder.

Frequently asked questions

What is an anagram?

A word or phrase made by rearranging the letters of another one, using each letter exactly once: listen and silent are anagrams. Choose Anagrams (use all letters) to find those.

How do blanks work?

Type ? for a letter you do not know or for a blank tile in a word game. Each ? can stand for any letter, and up to two are allowed. Words found with a blank are shown like any others, so the blank-letter is not marked.

How big is the word list?

About 15,000 common English words. It is meant for everyday words, so rare Scrabble words, names, and many plurals and verb forms may be missing. A game's official dictionary can accept words this list does not.

Is there a limit on letters?

Yes: 15 letters including blanks. Characters other than a to z and ? are ignored.
