Zalgo text generator
Type a word and it comes back with marks stacked on every letter, the look known as zalgo or cursed text. Choose how heavy it is, switch each direction on or off, and copy the result.
Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
How to use it
- Type or paste your text.
- Choose the intensity: Mini adds one mark in each direction per character, Normal three above, one through and three below, Maximum eight above, two through and eight below.
- Turn off a direction if you want only marks above or below. Copy the result.
How it works
The tool splits the text into visible characters (grapheme clusters) and appends combining marks from three lists: 32 that sit above, 5 that cut through and 40 that sit below. Which marks go on which character follows a fixed pattern based on its position, so no randomness is involved and the page can show a result before any script runs.
Worked example
The single letter “a” at Mini intensity becomes a followed by U+0300 (grave above), U+0337 (a short slash through) and U+031E (a down tack below). The tool reports 3 marks added.
Tips
Heavy text can make a chat or a form slow or unreadable for others, and some sites strip combining marks. Keep it short and test the place you paste it into.
Frequently asked questions
How does zalgo text work?
It uses combining characters from the Unicode block U+0300 to U+036F. A combining mark is drawn on the character before it, so many of them in a row pile up above, through or below the letter. The text is still ordinary letters with extra characters attached.
Is the result different each time?
No. The marks are picked by position, so the same text and settings always give the same output. Changing the text or the intensity changes the pattern.
Why is zalgo text a problem for accessibility?
Screen readers may read every combining mark or skip the word, search and translation tools fail to match it, and the marks can spill over lines above and below. Use it for fun in places where nobody depends on reading it, never for names, labels or important messages.
Why does it look different in different apps?
Each app and font draws combining marks its own way. Some clip the extra height, some stack the marks neatly, and some refuse more than a few marks per letter. Try the Mini setting if the Maximum one is cut off.
Are emoji and accented letters kept intact?
Yes. The marks are added after a whole visible character, so an emoji with a skin tone, a flag or a letter with its accent stays in one piece. Spaces and line breaks get no marks.
