CGPA to percentage calculator

Enter your CGPA on the 10-point scale to get a percentage. The default multiplier is 9.5, the rule CBSE uses; if your university states a different one, change it. You can also convert a percentage back to CGPA.

Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Pick what you want to convert: CGPA to percentage, percentage to CGPA, or a 4.0 GPA to a rough percentage.
  2. Enter the value. The multiplier starts at 9.5 (CBSE); change it if your university gives another.
  3. Read the result below.

The formulas

  • CBSE (10-point CGPA): percentage = CGPA × 9.5. This is the board’s own rule.
  • Other universities: percentage = CGPA × the multiplier the university states. Enter it in the multiplier field. The calculator does not know any institution’s rule, so it never picks a multiplier for you.
  • Back to CGPA: CGPA = percentage ÷ multiplier.
  • 4.0 GPA, rough: percentage ≈ GPA ÷ 4 × 100. This is only a stretch of one scale onto another. A US 3.0 is a B, which usually means somewhere around 80 to 89 percent, not 75.

Worked example

A CBSE student has a CGPA of 8.4. Percentage = 8.4 × 9.5 = 79.8 %. In reverse, 85.5 % ÷ 9.5 = 9.0 CGPA.

Tips

  • Use the same formula your target college or employer names. If they name none, say which one you used.
  • A result above 100 percent means the multiplier does not fit your scale; check it.
  • Do not mix scales: a CGPA out of 10 is not a GPA out of 4.0.

Frequently asked questions

What is the formula to convert CGPA to percentage?

For CBSE, the board's rule is percentage = CGPA × 9.5. A CGPA of 8.4 gives 79.8 percent. Other universities may use a different formula or a different multiplier, so always check the one printed on your marksheet or in your university's rules.

Is CGPA × 9.5 valid for every university?

No. It is CBSE's rule for its 10-point grading. Many universities publish their own conversion, and some do not allow one at all. For admissions or jobs, use the formula the institution asks for, or ask your registrar for a certificate.

How do I convert percentage to CGPA?

Divide the percentage by the multiplier. With the CBSE multiplier, 85.5 percent ÷ 9.5 = 9.0 CGPA. Choose "Percentage to CGPA" to do it with any multiplier.

Can I convert a 4.0 GPA to a percentage?

Only roughly. US schools do not define a percentage for a GPA, and grading differs by school. The rough option here scales GPA ÷ 4 × 100, so 3.5 shows 87.5 percent. Do not use it for official purposes.

Why does the result sometimes differ from my marksheet?

Marksheets may use a subject-wise or a different formula, or round differently. The marksheet and your institution's rules always take precedence over a calculator.
