Flashcard maker

Type a term and its definition to add a card. Study the deck with flip and shuffle, mark each card as known or not, and review the ones you missed. Your decks stay in this browser; nothing is uploaded.

0 cards. Saved in this browser only; clearing site data deletes it.

No cards yet. Add one above, or paste a list below.

One card per line, the term and the definition separated by a tab. Paste lines here and press Import, or press Export to get this deck as text.

Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Type the front and the back of a card and press Add card. Use Edit or Delete next to any card.
  2. Press New deck for another subject. Rename the deck in the name field.
  3. Press Study. Tap the card to flip it, then choose I know it or Not yet. Leave Shuffle on to change the order every time.
  4. At the end, study only the missed cards or start over.

Import and export

Cards are exchanged as plain text: term, tab, definition, one card per line.

mitochondria	organelle that makes most of a cell's ATP
photosynthesis	how plants turn light, water and CO2 into sugar

If a definition contains a tab it stays in the definition. Tabs or line breaks inside a term are replaced by spaces when exporting.

Worked example

You paste 40 lines into Import and 38 have a tab. The tool adds 38 cards and tells you 2 lines were skipped. In study mode you know 30 cards and miss 8; Study missed cards then runs through just those 8.

Tips

  • Keep each card to one idea; a short answer is easier to recall.
  • Say the answer before you flip the card.
  • Export a copy now and then, because browser storage can be cleared.

Frequently asked questions

Where are my flashcards saved?

In your browser's local storage on this device, under the key tools.flashcards. They are not sent to any server, so they do not sync between devices. Clearing site data removes them, so export a deck if it matters.

How do I move cards to another device or app?

Press Export to get one card per line with a tab between the term and the definition, then copy it. Paste the same text into Import on the other device, or into any app that reads tab-separated text, such as a spreadsheet.

Can I import from a spreadsheet?

Yes. Copy two columns from a spreadsheet and paste them into the import box; cells are separated by tabs. Lines without a tab or with an empty side are skipped, and the number skipped is shown.

What does Study do with cards I did not know?

They are counted as not yet known and collected. At the end you can study only the missed cards, or start the whole deck again.

Is there a limit on decks or cards?

Up to 50 decks and 2,000 cards in each deck. That is far more than most study sets and keeps the browser storage small.
