How to use it
- Enter where the line starts and ends and the step between ticks.
- Choose how often ticks carry a number; add points to mark, such as 3.5.
- Tick Leave numbers blank for a fill-in worksheet, then print.
How it works
The number of intervals is the range divided by the step, rounded down; tick i is at start + i × step, written with as many decimals as the step or start needs. Tick positions along the line are proportional to the value.
Example
Start 0, end 1, step 0.1, labelled every 5th tick: 11 ticks, with numbers 0.0, 0.5 and 1.0 shown.
Tips
- For fractions practice, use a step of 0.25 or 0.5 and ask students to give the fraction.
- A range from −10 to 10 in steps of 1 is good for adding and subtracting negatives.
