How to use it

  1. Type a number. A dot or a comma works as the decimal separator.
  2. Choose the unit you have and the unit you need.
  3. The table shows the same value in all common units at once.

Conversion factors

Every unit is converted through the siemens (S).

Unit In S
1 kS 1,000
1 mho 1
1 mS 0.001
1 µS 0.000001
1 nS 10⁻⁹
1 abmho 10⁹
1 statmho ≈ 1.1127 × 10⁻¹²

Worked example

A conductivity meter reads 250 µS. That is 250 ÷ 1,000 = 0.25 mS, or 0.00025 S. The matching resistance is 1 ÷ 0.00025 = 4,000 Ω.

Quick reference

  • 1 S = 1,000 mS = 1,000,000 µS
  • G = 1 / R and G = I / V

Frequently asked questions

What is the relation between siemens and mho?

They are the same unit. The mho (℧, ohm spelled backwards) is the old name; the siemens (S) is the SI name. 1 S = 1 ℧ = 1 / 1 Ω.

How do I convert ohms to siemens?

Conductance is the reciprocal of resistance, G = 1 / R. A 100 Ω resistor has a conductance of 0.01 S = 10 mS. This tool converts conductance units; for resistance use the resistance converter.

What is an abmho?

The CGS electromagnetic unit of conductance, exactly 10⁹ S. It is the reciprocal of the abohm.

What is a statmho?

The CGS electrostatic unit, the reciprocal of the statohm: about 1.1127 × 10⁻¹² S.
