How to use it
- Type a number. A dot or a comma works as the decimal separator.
- Choose the unit you have and the unit you need. The ⇄ button swaps them.
- The table below shows the same value in all common units at once.
Conversion factors
Every unit is converted through the watt per square metre (W/m²).
| Unit | Value |
|---|---|
| 1 kW/m² | 1,000 W/m² |
| 1 W/cm² | 10,000 W/m² |
| 1 BTU/(h·ft²) | ≈ 3.1546 W/m² |
| 1 cal/(s·cm²) | 41,840 W/m² |
| 1 kcal/(h·m²) | ≈ 1.1622 W/m² |
Worked example
A wall losing 100 W/m² transfers 100 / 3.1546 = 31.7 BTU/(h·ft²). A flux of 0.5 cal/(s·cm²) is 0.5 × 41,840 = 20,920 W/m².
Quick reference
- 1 BTU/(h·ft²) ≈ 3.1546 W/m²
- 1 W/cm² = 10,000 W/m²
- Heat flux × area = heat flow in watts
