Frequency converter
Type a frequency, choose the units, and see the result and the same frequency in every common unit. Revolutions per minute and radians per second are included for motors and rotating parts.
Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
How to use it
- Type a number. A dot or a comma works as the decimal separator.
- Choose the unit you have and the unit you need. The ⇄ button swaps them.
- The table below shows the same frequency in all common units at once.
Conversion factors
Every unit is converted through the hertz.
| Unit |
In hertz |
| 1 kilohertz |
1,000 Hz |
| 1 megahertz |
1,000,000 Hz |
| 1 gigahertz |
10⁹ Hz |
| 1 terahertz |
10¹² Hz |
| 1 revolution per minute |
1/60 Hz ≈ 0.016667 Hz |
| 1 radian per second |
1/(2π) Hz ≈ 0.159155 Hz |
Worked example
A hard disk spinning at 7,200 rpm turns 7,200 / 60 = 120 times a second (120 Hz), which is 120 × 2π = 754 rad/s. A 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi band is 2,400 MHz.
Quick reference
- 1 Hz = 60 rpm ≈ 6.2832 rad/s
- 1 rpm ≈ 0.10472 rad/s
- Period in seconds = 1 / frequency in Hz
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert RPM to Hz?
Divide by 60. A motor at 3,000 rpm turns 50 times a second, so 50 Hz. Multiply Hz by 60 to get rpm.
How do I convert Hz to rad/s?
Multiply by 2π, about 6.2832, because one full turn is 2π radians. So 50 Hz is 314.16 rad/s. This is angular frequency.
How many hertz is a gigahertz?
1,000,000,000 Hz, or 1,000 MHz. One terahertz is 1,000 GHz.
What is the difference between frequency and angular frequency?
Frequency counts cycles or turns per second (hertz). Angular frequency counts radians per second, and is 2π times larger.
How do I find the period from the frequency?
Divide 1 by the frequency in hertz. A 50 Hz signal repeats every 0.02 s, or 20 ms. The time converter can change the unit of the answer.
