How to use it

  1. Type a number. A dot or a comma works as the decimal separator.
  2. Choose the unit you have and the unit you need. The ⇄ button swaps them.
  3. The table shows the same flow in all common units at once.

Conversion factors

Every unit is converted through kg/s.

Unit In kg/s
1 kg/min 0.016667
1 kg/h 0.00027778
1 t/h 0.27777778
1 t/day 0.011574
1 lb/s 0.45359237
1 lb/h 0.00012600
1 short ton/h 0.25199577

A day is 86,400 seconds and an hour is 3,600 seconds.

Worked example

A boiler makes steam at 12,000 lb/h. That is 12,000 × 0.45359237 = 5,443 kg/h, or 1.512 kg/s, or 5.44 t/h.

Tips

  • Mass flow does not change with temperature or pressure, unlike volume flow.
  • Check which “ton” a datasheet means before converting.

Frequently asked questions

How many lb/h is 1 kg/s?

1 kg/s is 3,600 kg/h, which is 3,600 ÷ 0.45359237 = 7,936.64 lb/h.

What tonne does this use?

The metric tonne of 1,000 kg, written t. The short ton, 2,000 lb or 907.18474 kg, is listed separately as short ton/h. The long ton is not included.

How do I convert a mass flow into a volume flow?

Divide by the density of the fluid at the operating temperature and pressure. The result depends on the fluid, so this tool only converts mass units and time units.

How many kg/h is 1 tonne per day?

1,000 kg ÷ 24 h = 41.667 kg/h.
