Days until a holiday
Choose a holiday and the tool counts the days from today (or any date you set) to its next occurrence. Movable holidays such as Easter, Thanksgiving and Lunar New Year are worked out for the right year.
Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
How to use it
- Choose a holiday from the list.
- Leave the start date as today, or pick another day.
- Read the days left, the date and the weekday.
How it works
Fixed holidays fall on the same date every year, so the tool uses this year’s date if it has not passed, and next year’s otherwise. Movable ones follow a rule: the fourth Thursday of November for US Thanksgiving, the last Monday of May for Memorial Day, the first Monday of September for Labor Day, Easter by the standard computus. Lunar New Year, Rosh Hashanah, Passover and Hanukkah are found with the Chinese and Hebrew calendars built into your browser.
Worked examples
- From 3 November 2026 to Thanksgiving in the US (26 November): 23 days.
- From 1 January 2026 to US Mother’s Day: Sunday 10 May 2026.
- From 1 March 2027 to the next Lunar New Year: 26 January 2028.
Good to know
Several holidays differ by country. The list names the country where the rule is specific, such as US or UK, and holidays such as Christmas fall on the same date in most places that observe them.
Frequently asked questions
How many days until Christmas?
Choose Christmas Day and leave the start date as today. From 3 November 2026 there are 52 days to Friday 25 December 2026. On Christmas Day itself the count is 0, and from 26 December it counts towards next year.
How is the date of Easter worked out?
Western Easter is the Sunday after the first full moon on or after 21 March, in the Gregorian calendar. Orthodox Easter uses the Julian calendar for the same rule, so it is the same day or later; in 2026 they are 5 April and 12 April. The tool computes both from the standard algorithms.
When are Thanksgiving and Mother's Day?
US Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November (26 November 2026). Canadian Thanksgiving is the second Monday of October. US Mother's Day is the second Sunday of May, and UK Mothering Sunday is three weeks before Easter.
Do the Jewish holidays and Lunar New Year start the day shown?
The date is the calendar day of the holiday. Rosh Hashanah, Passover and Hanukkah begin at sundown on the evening before. Lunar New Year is the first day of the first lunar month: 17 February 2026 and 26 January 2028. These dates come from your browser's calendar data, which in a few years (such as 2027 and 2030) can be a day off from published almanacs.
