Online alarm clock

Pick a time and press Set. When the time comes the page beeps and the tab title changes. You can stop the alarm or snooze it. The page has to stay open for the alarm to work.

--:--

Keep this tab open and your device awake. An alarm cannot ring if the page is closed or the computer is asleep.

Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Choose the alarm time. The alarm rings at the next time the clock shows it, today if it is still ahead and otherwise tomorrow.
  2. Add a label if you like, and press Set alarm.
  3. Leave the tab open. The clock shows how long is left.
  4. When it rings, press Stop, or Snooze to be reminded again in 5, 10 or 15 minutes.

How it works

The page does not check the time continuously. It sets a single timer that fires at the start of the next minute, to refresh the clock, or at the alarm time if that comes sooner. This uses almost no battery. The beep is generated in the browser, so there is no sound file to load.

Worked example

It is 06:00 and you set 07:00: the alarm rings in 1 hour. If you set 07:00 at 07:00:30, that time has just passed, so the alarm is set for 07:00 tomorrow.

Limits to know

An online alarm is good for naps, cooking and reminders at your desk. Do not rely on it to wake you up: a locked phone, battery saver mode or a sleeping laptop can stop the page from running.

Frequently asked questions

Will the alarm ring if I close the tab?

No. The alarm lives in the page, so it needs the tab to stay open and the device awake. For a wake-up alarm, use the alarm app on your phone, which works with the screen off.

Why did I not hear the beep?

Browsers allow sound only on pages you have clicked on, so press Set alarm yourself and check the volume and that the tab is not muted. The tab title and the screen also show that the alarm is ringing.

Does it work in a background tab?

Usually yes, but browsers can delay timers in hidden tabs, so the alarm may be late by a few seconds. It also checks the time again as soon as you return to the tab.

What happens when I snooze?

The alarm stops and rings again after the number of minutes you chose, 5 by default. You can snooze as many times as you like, or press Stop to end it.
