Seconds to hours, minutes and seconds converter
Type a number of seconds to see it as h:mm:ss and as days, hours, minutes and seconds. Type a duration such as 1:02:05 or 1d 2h 3m instead, and you get the total in seconds, minutes, hours and days.

How to use it
- Enter seconds (
3725), a time (1:02:05) or units (1d 2h 3m 4s, 90 min).
- Read the h:mm:ss form and the days-hours-minutes-seconds form.
- The lower rows give the same duration as a single number of seconds, minutes, hours and days.
How it works
Everything is converted to milliseconds first and split with whole-number steps: 1 day = 86,400 s, 1 hour = 3,600 s, 1 minute = 60 s. The h:mm:ss form keeps all hours in the first part; the days form splits them into days plus a remainder under 24 hours. Zero parts are left out of the days form.
Worked example
3725 seconds: 3725 / 3600 gives 1 hour with 125 seconds left, which is 2 minutes and 5 seconds. The result is 1:02:05, or 1h 2m 5s. As decimals it is 62.0833 minutes or 1.034722 hours.
90061 seconds = 86,400 + 3,600 + 60 + 1 = 1d 1h 1m 1s, shown as 25:01:01 in hours form.
Tips
- Video and audio timestamps, stopwatch results and uptime counters are usually in seconds; this is the quick way to read them.
- For work hours as decimals (7.75 instead of 7:45) use the decimal hours converter.
Frequently asked questions
How many seconds are in an hour, a day and a week?
An hour has 3,600 seconds, a day has 86,400 and a week has 604,800. These count every day as exactly 24 hours, with no daylight saving changes or leap seconds.
How do I convert seconds to hours, minutes and seconds by hand?
Divide by 3600 for whole hours, divide the remainder by 60 for whole minutes, and what is left is the seconds. For 3725 seconds, 3725 = 1 x 3600 + 125, and 125 = 2 x 60 + 5, so it is 1:02:05.
Does 1:30 mean one minute thirty seconds?
Not here. With a colon, two parts are read as hours and minutes (h:mm) and three parts as h:mm:ss. To enter 1 minute 30 seconds, type 0:01:30, 1m 30s or just 90.
Why does h:mm:ss go above 24 hours?
The hours part of h:mm:ss is a running total, so 90061 seconds is 25:01:01. The days row shows the same value as 1d 1h 1m 1s.
