How to use it
- Pick the type of trip, the number of days and the climate. Switch on laundry or rain if they apply.
- Tick items as you pack them. The counter shows how many are done.
- Add your own items in the box, for example a gift, a visa or a special charger.
- Come back later: your choices and ticks are still there on the same device and browser.
How the quantities work
- Underwear: days + 1. Socks: one pair a day.
- T-shirts (or shirts on a business trip): one a day in a warm climate, otherwise three quarters of the days, rounded up.
- Trousers: one for every three days, at least one. Shorts, sweaters, hiking socks and base layers follow similar rules.
- With laundry on the trip the day count for clothes is capped at 7.
Worked example
A 10-day trip with laundry counts clothes for 7 days: 8 pairs of underwear, 7 pairs of socks, 3 trousers. Without laundry, the same trip needs 11 pairs of underwear and 10 pairs of socks.
Tips
Pack the documents first and keep them in hand luggage. Check the weather before you leave and change the climate or rain options if it has changed.
Frequently asked questions
How are the quantities of clothes worked out?
Underwear is one pair per day plus one spare, and socks one pair a day. T-shirts are one a day in warm weather and three quarters of that, rounded up, otherwise. Trousers are one per three days, at least one.
What does the laundry option change?
With laundry available, clothes are counted for at most 7 days, however long the trip is. Without it, the quantities grow with every day, up to the 60 days the tool allows.
Where are my ticks and items saved?
Only in your browser, in local storage on this device, under the name tools.packing. Nothing is sent to a server, and clearing site data removes the list.
Are these lists complete?
