Fiscal quarter calculator
Enter a date and the month your fiscal year starts. You get the fiscal quarter and year, the first and last day of that quarter, how many days are left in it and the start of all four quarters. January gives the plain calendar quarters.

How to use it
- Pick the date. The calculator opens with 3 November 2026.
- Choose the month your fiscal year starts in (January for the calendar year).
- Choose how the fiscal year is named, by the year it ends or by the year it starts.
- Read the quarter, its dates and days left, and the quarter starts of the whole year.
How it works
The fiscal year begins on the 1st of the chosen month. The quarter number is the number of whole months since that start, divided by 3, plus 1. A date earlier in the calendar year than the start month belongs to the fiscal year that began the year before. Quarter ends are the day before the next quarter starts, so they include leap days. Days left are counted from the date to the quarter’s last day.
Worked example
3 November 2026 with a fiscal year starting in October: it is 1 month after the start, so the date is in Q1. The quarter runs 1 October to 31 December 2026 (92 days), with 58 days left. The year ends on 30 September 2027, so named by the year it ends it is FY2027.
With an April start, 15 February 2027 is in Q4 (1 January to 31 March 2027), with 44 days left.
Tips
- The first quarter of a year starting in December ends in February, so its length depends on whether it is a leap year.
- Company reporting deadlines usually follow the fiscal quarter, not the calendar quarter; check your own policy for the exact dates.
Frequently asked questions
How are fiscal quarters counted?
The fiscal year is split into four quarters of three calendar months, starting from the month your fiscal year begins. With an October start, Q1 is October to December, Q2 is January to March, Q3 is April to June and Q4 is July to September.
Which year is the fiscal year named after?
There is no single rule, so the tool lets you choose. A common convention, used for example by the US federal government, names the year after the calendar year in which it ends, so the year beginning 1 October 2026 is FY2027. Some companies name it after the year it starts. Check your own company or country rules.
Which months do organisations use as the start of a fiscal year?
January is the calendar year. Other common starts are April (for example in India, Japan and the UK government), July (for example in Australia) and October (the US federal government). Any month can be chosen here.
Does it support 4-4-5 or 52/53-week fiscal calendars?
No. Quarters here are whole calendar months. Retail calendars with 4-4-5 week patterns have their own year-end dates and are not covered.
