Frequently asked questions
How do you convert 12-hour time to military time?
For AM hours keep the number, with a leading zero, so 9:30 AM is 0930. For PM hours add 12, so 3:45 PM is 1545. The two exceptions are 12 AM, which is 0000, and 12 PM, which stays 1200.
How do you convert military time to standard time?
Up to 1159 it is AM, and 0000 is 12 AM. From 1200 to 1259 it is PM, and from 1300 you subtract 12 and add PM, so 1545 is 3:45 PM.
How do you say military time?
Read the hours and minutes as two pairs. 0800 is zero eight hundred hours, 1500 is fifteen hundred hours and 1545 is fifteen forty-five hours. Some speakers say oh instead of zero. The spoken form here follows this English convention.
Is midnight 0000 or 2400?
Both are used. 0000 is the start of a day and the usual form. 2400 means the end of the same day and appears in some schedules. This tool reads 2400 as 0000.
