Nth weekday of the month finder
Pick which weekday you need (first, second, third, fourth, fifth or last), the day of the week and a starting month. You get the date for that month and the 11 that follow, which is handy for recurring meetings and schedules.
Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
How to use it
- Choose First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth or Last and a day of the week.
- Choose the month and year to start from.
- The first line is the date in your starting month; the list below has the same rule for the next 11 months.
How it works
The tool finds the first day of the month and its weekday, moves forward to the first matching weekday (0 to 6 days), and then adds 7 days for each step to the nth one. For Last it starts from the final day of the month and moves back to the matching weekday. If the fifth occurrence would land in the next month, the month is shown as having none. Dates are calendar dates in the Gregorian calendar.
Worked example
The third Thursday of November 2026: 1 November 2026 is a Sunday, so the Thursdays are the 5th, 12th, 19th and 26th. The third is 19 November, and the fourth, 26 November, is the US Thanksgiving date that year.
Tips
- Recurring meeting rules such as “every second Tuesday” use the same calculation.
- Dates come out as year-month-day so they sort and paste into spreadsheets correctly.
Frequently asked questions
How do I find the third Thursday of a month?
Find the first Thursday, which is on day 1 to 7, then add 14 days. The tool does this for 12 months at once. Pick Third and Thursday, and set the starting month and year.
What does a dash mean in the list?
Only some months have a fifth occurrence of a weekday, because a month has 28 to 31 days. When there is none, the month shows a dash. Use Last to always get the final one.
What is the difference between the fourth and the last weekday?
A month has either four or five of each weekday. When it has four, the fourth is also the last; when it has five, the last is the fifth. For example the last Monday of May (Memorial Day in the United States) can be the fourth or the fifth.
Which holidays follow this kind of rule?
In the United States, Thanksgiving is the fourth Thursday of November, Martin Luther King Jr. Day is the third Monday of January, Labor Day is the first Monday of September, and Mother's Day is the second Sunday of May.
