How to use it

  1. Choose the direction: Gregorian to Persian or Persian to Gregorian.
  2. Pick a date, or enter the Persian year, month and day.
  3. Read the converted date.

How it works

The tool asks your browser’s built-in Persian calendar for the Solar Hijri date of a Gregorian day. To go the other way it checks the days around the matching Gregorian year (from mid March, for about a year) until it finds the date you entered, so a date that does not exist gives an error.

Months 1 to 6 have 31 days, months 7 to 11 have 30, and Esfand has 29, or 30 in leap years.

Worked examples

  • 21 March 2026 is 1 Farvardin 1405, Nowruz.
  • 12 September 2026 is 21 Shahrivar 1405.
  • 20 March 2026 is 29 Esfand 1404, the last day of the previous year.

Good to know

Nowruz is set by the moment of the spring equinox in Tehran, which can put it on 20 or 21 March, so the conversion near that date depends on the calendar rules your browser follows. Official Iranian dates are the reference for legal use.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Persian calendar?

It is the Solar Hijri calendar, also called the Jalali calendar, the official calendar of Iran and, with different month names, of Afghanistan. It counts years from the Hijra of 622 CE and is a solar calendar, so its year follows the seasons, unlike the lunar Islamic calendar.

When is Nowruz?

Nowruz is 1 Farvardin, the first day of the Persian year, and falls on 20 or 21 March. In 2026 it is 21 March, the start of year 1405. Enter 1405, Farvardin, day 1 to check.

How long are the Persian months?

The first six months, Farvardin to Shahrivar, have 31 days, the next five have 30, and the last, Esfand, has 29 days, or 30 in a leap year.

How is the Gregorian year related to the Persian year?

From 1 January to 20 March the Persian year is the Gregorian year minus 622, and after Nowruz it is the Gregorian year minus 621. For example, 3 November 2026 is in Persian year 1405.
