Blur and pixelate image

Choose a picture, drag a rectangle over the part you want to hide and pick blur or pixelate. Draw as many boxes as you need, then download the result. It all happens on your device.

Everything happens in your browser. Your files are never uploaded.

Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Choose or drop a picture.
  2. Select Pixelate or Blur and set the strength.
  3. Drag across the picture to draw a box. Repeat for each place you want to hide. Whole image adds a box over everything.
  4. Use Undo last or Clear all if needed, then Download image.

How it works

Each box is drawn into the preview and again at full size when you save: pixelate shrinks the box to a few big squares and enlarges it without smoothing; blur softens it with a canvas filter. In browsers whose canvas has no filter support, blur falls back to a smoothed shrink and enlarge. The picture outside the boxes is not touched.

Tips

  • Cover a bit more than the detail itself, including edges.
  • Check the saved file by zooming in before you share it.
  • Photos also hold hidden data; run the file through the remove EXIF tool as well.

Frequently asked questions

Pixelate or blur: which hides better?

Pixelate with big blocks removes the detail for good. A weak blur only softens the picture and software may be able to partly recover it. For anything private, choose pixelate and a high strength, and check the result at full size.

Can I undo?

Yes, use Undo last to remove the latest box or Clear all to start over. The original file is never changed, and the effect is only burned into the picture you download.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. You draw with a finger. The picture does not scroll while you drag on it, so scroll by touching outside it.

What does the strength setting mean?

It is a share of the picture's long side: each step is a thousandth. On a 4000 × 3000 photo, strength 20 gives pixel blocks 80 pixels wide, so the same setting hides the same amount on a small or a big picture.
