Choose a picture, pick how many rows and columns you want and download the tiles. Use it for an Instagram grid, a poster printed on several sheets or a puzzle. The grid is drawn on the preview first, and your picture never leaves your device.
Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
How to use it
- Choose a picture.
- Set the number of rows and columns, or press a quick grid such as 3 × 3.
- Check the dashed grid on the preview.
- Press Download all tiles, or download single tiles from the list below.
How it works
The picture is divided with borders at floor(i × size / parts). On a 1000 × 1000 picture with 3 columns the vertical borders are at 0, 333, 666 and 1000, so the tiles are 333, 333 and 334 px wide. Each tile is copied from the original at full resolution onto its own canvas and saved, so nothing is resampled.
Tiles are numbered by position, left to right and top to bottom, and named like photo-r1c1.png (row 1, column 1).
Tips
- For an Instagram profile grid choose 3 columns, and crop the picture first so that the whole picture has the shape you want the tiles to have.
- Upload order matters: post the tiles in reverse, starting from the bottom right.
- For a poster, split into the sheets you can print and glue them together.
Frequently asked questions
How do I make an Instagram grid?
Use 3 columns and 3 rows (or 3 × 1 for a triptych), download the tiles and post them one by one. Instagram shows the newest post first, so post the last tile (row 3, column 3) first and the first tile (row 1, column 1) last to get the picture in the right order.
What if the picture does not divide evenly?
The tile borders are spread evenly and rounded down, so no pixels are lost: a picture 1000 px wide cut into 3 columns gives tiles 333, 333 and 334 px wide. Tiles may differ by one pixel.
Why no ZIP file?
The tool uses no extra libraries to stay small and fast. Instead it saves the tiles one by one with a short pause; your browser may ask permission to download multiple files. You can also download a single tile with its own button.
How many tiles can I make?
Up to 10 rows and 10 columns, which is 100 tiles. The file names end with the position, for example photo-r2c3.png for row 2, column 3.
Which format are the tiles?
The format of your picture if it is JPG, PNG or WebP, otherwise PNG. You can change it before downloading. JPG and WebP tiles use quality 92.
