How to use it

  1. Choose or drop your picture.
  2. Type the top and bottom text. Either can be left empty.
  3. Adjust the size, the text colour and the outline colour. Untick UPPERCASE if you want normal capitals.
  4. Press Download PNG.

How it works

Each caption is wrapped to 94% of the picture width, then drawn line by line in bold type: first the outline, then the fill on top. The outline is 14% of the font size wide with rounded joins so letters stay readable on busy backgrounds. The top text starts 3% of the height below the top edge, and the bottom text ends 3% above the bottom edge. For example, three lines at 50 px on a 600 px tall picture start at y = 417.

Tips

  • Keep each caption short: two lines at most are easy to read.
  • White text with black outline works on almost any picture. Swap colours for very light images.

Frequently asked questions

Which font is used?

A bold condensed sans-serif stack that starts with Impact and falls back to similar bold fonts such as Haettenschweiler and Arial Black. Impact comes with Windows and macOS; on other devices a fallback is used, so the look can differ slightly.

How does the text size work?

It is a percentage of the picture's width, so the same setting looks alike on small and large images: 10% of an 800 px wide picture is 80 px. Long lines wrap automatically.

Does it include meme templates?

No. You add your own picture. This keeps the tool free of other people's images and copyright questions.

What format is the download?

PNG at the original size of your picture. The preview is smaller on screen but the saved file is full size.
