Social media image resizer

Choose a picture, pick a size such as square post, story or wide link preview and click the part of the picture that must stay in the frame. The tool crops around that point, resizes and saves the file. You can also save every size at once. Everything runs in your browser.

How to use it

  1. Choose or drop a picture.
  2. Pick a size from the list and a file format.
  3. Click or drag on the preview to put the focal point on the important part.
  4. Press Download this size, or Download all sizes to save every preset one after another.

How it works

For the chosen size the tool finds the largest window of your picture that has the same shape (width to height ratio). It centres that window on your focal point, keeps it inside the picture and scales it to the exact pixels. Pictures that are wider than the frame lose their sides, taller ones lose top and bottom.

Example

A 4000 × 3000 photo made into a 1080 × 1080 square uses a 3000 × 3000 window. With the focal point in the middle the window starts 500 px from the left; with the point at the far left it starts at 0, at the far right at 1000 px.

Tips

  • Keep text and faces away from the edges of story and banner sizes: apps place buttons and labels on top.
  • JPG is the smallest for photos; choose PNG for screenshots and graphics with sharp text.

Frequently asked questions

Are these the official sizes of every service?

They are common sizes in current use, named by their shape rather than by a service. Services change their recommendations from time to time, so check the size you need, then use this tool for the crop. The picture is saved at the exact pixel size of the preset.

What is the focal point?

It is the point of the picture that the crop is centred on. If a face sits at the left, click it: the frame moves there as far as the picture allows, so the face is not cut off by a central crop.

Does it stretch or distort the picture?

No. The tool cuts a window with the shape of the chosen size out of your picture and scales it, so the proportions are kept. Parts outside the window are cropped away.

What if my picture is smaller than the target size?

It is enlarged to fit, which can look soft. Start from a picture at least as large as the size you need whenever you can.
