Rotate and flip image
Choose a picture, turn it by 90, 180 or 270 degrees, flip it left to right or top to bottom, and download the result. Everything runs in your browser, so the file stays on your device.
Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
How to use it
- Choose or drop a picture.
- Press the buttons in any order: rotate left or right by 90°, rotate 180°, flip horizontal or flip vertical. The preview updates at once, and the size of the result is shown.
- Press Download image. The file name gets a
-rotated suffix.
How it works
The picture is drawn onto a canvas with the chosen turn and mirror, then saved in its original format. Turning by 90° or 270° swaps width and height: a 3000 × 2000 photo becomes 2000 × 3000. Flipping vertically is the same as flipping horizontally and turning 180°, so any combination of buttons ends up as one of eight possible orientations.
Tips
- Use Reset to return to the original orientation.
- Mirror a picture before using it as a print-on-transfer image, where the text must be reversed.
- To trim the edges afterwards, use the image cropper.
Frequently asked questions
Does rotating an image reduce its quality?
PNG stays exactly the same. JPG and WebP are encoded again at high quality, so there can be a very small loss that is usually not visible. This tool does not do the lossless JPEG block rotation some desktop programs offer.
Which formats are kept?
JPG, PNG and WebP are saved in the same format. Other pictures, such as GIF, BMP or SVG, are saved as PNG. An animated GIF becomes a single still frame.
My photo is sideways. Will this fix it?
Browsers apply the camera's orientation when they open a photo, and the preview shows what the browser sees. Rotate it until it looks right and download. The saved file has the pixels in the new orientation.
What is the difference between flipping and rotating?
Rotating turns the picture, so text stays readable. Flipping mirrors it, like a reflection, so text reads backwards. Flip horizontal swaps left and right, flip vertical swaps top and bottom.
