Time tracker

Add the tasks or clients you work on and press Start when you begin. Only one timer runs at a time, so starting another task stops the current one. The tracker shows how long each task took on any day and lets you export every entry as a CSV file for a spreadsheet or an invoice. Nothing leaves your browser.

No tasks yet. Add the first one above.

Entries on this day

No time recorded on this day.

Tasks and times are saved in this browser only and never uploaded. A running timer keeps counting even if you close the page.

Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Type a task, project or client and press Add task. Add as many as you need (up to 50).
  2. Press Start next to a task when you begin; the running timer is shown on top.
  3. Press Stop, or Start on another task to switch.
  4. Use the arrows to see any other day; each task shows its time on that day and the total is below.
  5. Press Export CSV to download all entries.

How it works

Every start and stop is saved as an entry with a start time and an end time. The time of a task on a day is the sum of the parts of its entries that fall between that day’s midnight and the next. A running entry counts up to the current second. Times are shown as hours:minutes:seconds, with seconds cut rather than rounded.

Example

You start “Write report” at 9:00, switch to “Email” at 10:00 and stop at 10:30. The day shows Write report 1:00:00, Email 0:30:00 and a total of 1:30:00. The CSV has two rows: one of 60.00 minutes and one of 30.00 minutes.

Tips

  • Keep task names short and specific, such as a client and a project, so the CSV is easy to sum in a spreadsheet.
  • Export at the end of each week; browser storage can be cleared by privacy tools.
  • A spreadsheet pivot table on the CSV gives totals per task for any period.

Frequently asked questions

Does the timer keep running when I close the tab?

Yes. The tracker stores the moment you pressed Start, not a ticking counter, so when you come back the time in between is counted. Press Stop when you finish.

Where is my data stored?

In your browser's local storage on this device. Nothing is sent to a server. Another browser, another device, a private window or clearing site data starts empty, so export a CSV regularly if the records matter.

How are entries that pass midnight counted?

Each day shows only the part of an entry that falls inside it. Work from 23:00 to 01:00 counts one hour on each of the two days.

What does the CSV contain?

One row per entry with the task, the start and end in your local time (YYYY-MM-DD HH:MM:SS) and the duration in minutes with two decimals. A running entry has an empty end and its minutes so far. The file opens in Excel, Google Sheets or LibreOffice.

I forgot to start the timer. Can I fix it?

Yes. Choose the task under Add forgotten time, enter the minutes and press Add time; the entry ends at the current moment. Wrong entries can be deleted from the list of the day.
