Time blocking planner

Set your working hours, then add blocks: a start time, a length, a title and a kind such as focus, meeting, admin, break or personal. The blocks appear on a timeline of the day, overlaps are marked, and the planner sums up planned and free time. Plan any day, copy yesterday's plan, and print it.

No blocks on this day yet. Add the first one above.

Your plans are saved in this browser only and never uploaded. The last 90 days with blocks are kept.

Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Set Working day from and until; the timeline shows that window.
  2. Choose a Start time and a Length, type what the block is for and pick its Kind, then press Add block. The next start time moves to the end of the latest block.
  3. Change a block’s time, length (in minutes), title or kind in the list under the timeline.
  4. Check the totals of planned and free time, and fix any overlaps.
  5. Press Print for a one-page plan of the day.

How it works

Each block is a start time and a length in minutes, kept between 00:00 and 24:00. On the timeline its position and height are the start and length as a share of the working window. Blocks that overlap are placed in side-by-side columns: each takes the first column that is free at its start.

Planned time counts each minute of the working window once, however many blocks cover it. Free time is the working window minus planned time.

Example

A working day from 08:00 to 18:00 is 600 minutes. Blocks: Standup 09:00–09:30 (meeting), Report 09:30–11:30 (focus), Lunch 12:00–13:00 (break), Email 13:00–13:30 (admin). Planned time is 30 + 120 + 60 + 30 = 240 minutes, 4 h; free time is 6 h.

If you add a call from 10:00 to 11:00, it overlaps the Report block: both are marked and drawn side by side. Planned time stays 4 h, because 10:00–11:00 was already covered, while Focus shows 2 h and Meeting 1 h 30 min.

Tips

  • Put focus blocks in the hours you think best, usually the morning, and keep them 60–120 minutes long.
  • Leave 10–20 % of the day free for surprises; a plan with no slack breaks at the first interruption.
  • Batch email and messages into one or two admin blocks instead of checking all day.

Frequently asked questions

What is time blocking?

Planning the day as a series of blocks, each reserved for one kind of work, instead of working from an open to-do list. A block of focused work is protected like a meeting, and small tasks are batched into an admin block, so less of the day is lost to switching.

How are planned and free time counted?

Planned is the time inside your working hours covered by at least one block, so overlapping blocks are not counted twice. Free is the rest of the working hours. Time planned before or after the working hours is shown separately. The totals per kind add up block lengths, so they do count overlaps twice.

Can I plan more than one day?

Yes. Use the arrows to move between days; each day has its own blocks. Copy the previous day reuses a routine. The last 90 days that have blocks are kept.

What happens to overlapping blocks?

Nothing is deleted. They are drawn side by side on the timeline and marked with a dashed outline so you can move one. Blocks that only touch, such as 9:00–10:00 and 10:00–11:00, do not count as an overlap.

Is my plan uploaded?

No. It is stored in your browser's local storage on this device and printed by your browser.
