How to use it
- Choose an audio file.
- Enter the Fade in and Fade out times in seconds. Use 0 for no fade on that side.
- Choose the Curve and press Apply fades.
- Listen to the result and download the WAV.
How it works
Each sample is multiplied by a gain between 0 and 1. In a linear fade the gain at position t of the fade (0 to 1) is t; in the smooth fade it is (1 - cos(pi t)) / 2. The first sample of a fade-in and the last sample of a fade-out are silent.
Worked example
A 3 s fade-in on a 44.1 kHz file covers 132,300 samples. Halfway through it, at 1.5 s, the gain is 0.5 with both curves.
Tips
- Two to four seconds suits most songs; a tenth of a second is enough to remove clicks at a cut.
- Trim the recording first with the audio cutter, then fade the new ends.
