Touch screen test
Draw on the test area with one or more fingers to see whether touches register and how many the screen tracks at once. Switch to the grid, swipe across it, and any square that stays empty is a spot your screen may not be reading.
Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
How to use it
- Pick Draw and put one to ten fingers on the area. The counters show Touching now and Most at once.
- Pick Grid and swipe across it. Squares turn green once touched, and the counter shows how many of the total are filled.
- Use Fullscreen for the whole screen, where available. Press Esc or the back gesture to leave.
How the grid works
The area is divided into squares of 56 CSS pixels. A 336 × 224 area gives 6 columns × 4 rows = 24 squares. A touch marks the square under the finger, and the page does not interpolate between points, so swipe slowly enough to cover the squares.
Tips
- Clean and dry. Wet or dirty screens cause false dead zones.
- Screen protectors can also reduce sensitivity at the edges.
- Test edges and corners by hand; they fail first.
Frequently asked questions
How many touch points should my screen support?
Most phones and tablets handle five to ten fingers. The Most at once value is the highest number of fingers the screen showed at the same moment during your test, so use enough fingers to reach the limit.
How do I find dead zones?
Choose Grid and swipe your finger over the whole area, including the corners and edges. A square that stays empty after you passed over it may not register touches. Repeat to be sure, and clean the screen first.
Why does the page not scroll while I touch the area?
The test area blocks scrolling and zooming so drags are read as drawing. Touch outside the area to scroll the page.
Why can't I get more than two or three touches on a laptop?
Some touch screens and touchpads are limited, and browsers may take over some multi-finger gestures. The tool shows what the browser delivers.
Can I use a mouse?
Yes. A mouse or pen draws one point at a time, so Most at once stays at 1.
