Online screen recorder
Press Start, choose what to share in the browser's own picker, and record. Tick the microphone option to narrate. When you stop, you can play the video back and download it. This works in desktop Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari; most phones cannot capture their screen from a web page.
Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
How to use it
- Optionally tick Add my microphone to narrate.
- Press Start recording and pick a tab, window or the whole screen in the browser’s dialog.
- Do what you want to show. Press Stop recording, or use the browser’s Stop sharing bar.
- Watch the preview, then press Download.
How it works
getDisplayMedia returns a video stream of what you chose, and MediaRecorder encodes it in the browser. If you add the microphone, the page mixes your voice with any shared sound through the Web Audio API into a single audio track. The page picks the first container the browser accepts: WebM with VP9, VP8, then plain WebM, then MP4.
Worked example
You record a 1 min 30 s tab demo with narration. The timer ends at 1:30, the preview plays with your voice, and the download is named like screen-2026-11-03-1415.webm.
Tips
- Close notifications before recording: anything shown on the shared surface is captured.
- Recording a single tab gives the best chance of capturing its sound.
- Long recordings are held in memory; save them before starting another.
Frequently asked questions
Is the video uploaded?
No. Capture and encoding happen in your browser and the video is held in memory until you download it. Closing or reloading the tab discards it.
Why does it say my browser is not supported?
The page needs the screen capture feature (getDisplayMedia) and MediaRecorder. Desktop browsers have both. iPhone, iPad and most Android browsers do not let a web page record the screen; use the built-in screen recorder in the system instead.
How do I record sound from a video or game?
In the share dialog, choose a browser tab or the entire screen and tick the option to share audio. Chrome and Edge support this for tabs, and for the whole screen on Windows. Firefox and Safari generally do not capture system sound.
What format is the file?
Chrome, Edge and Firefox produce WebM, Safari produces MP4. The format is shown after you stop. Most video players open WebM; if yours does not, VLC does.
