QR code scanner
Point your camera at a code or choose an image that contains one. The page decodes it with the browser's built-in barcode detector, so the picture stays on your device. It works only in browsers that provide this feature.
Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
How to use it
- Press Start camera, allow access and hold a code steady in view. The back camera is preferred where there is one.
- Or press Scan an image file and choose a screenshot or photo that contains a code.
- Each new code is added to the list with its type. Use Copy text or, for web addresses, Open link.
- Press Stop to turn the camera off. It also turns off when you leave the tab.
How it works
While the camera runs, the page asks the browser’s BarcodeDetector to look at the video about four times a second. Duplicates of a code already in the list are ignored. For an image file the page decodes the picture once. Nothing is uploaded.
Tips
- Good light and a steady hand matter more than distance. Fill a third to a half of the frame with the code.
- A very small or blurred code in a photo often fails; take it again closer.
- To make a code instead, use the QR code generator.
Frequently asked questions
Are my camera pictures or images uploaded?
No. Frames and files are read by your browser's own barcode detector and are not sent anywhere. Only the decoded text is shown on the page, and nothing is stored.
Why does it say the scanner is not supported?
The page uses the browser's BarcodeDetector API instead of a bundled decoder, to stay small and fast. Not every browser or operating system provides it. If the message appears, try another browser or device, or scan with your phone's camera app.
Is it safe to open a scanned link?
Check the address before you open it. Codes can point to fake or harmful sites. Only web links starting with http or https get an Open link button, and it opens in a new tab; other text, such as Wi-Fi or contact data, is shown as plain text.
What kinds of code can it read?
Whatever formats your browser reports it can detect, usually QR codes and common barcodes such as EAN, UPC and Code 128. The type is shown with each result.
