Mouse test

Click, right-click and scroll inside the test area. Each button lights up when pressed and counts its clicks, so a faulty button or a double-click glitch shows up at once. The context menu is blocked only inside the area.

Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

What it checks

  • Left, middle and right buttons, plus back and forward side buttons where the mouse has them. A button turns solid while it is held and keeps a click counter.
  • Double click, shown when two left clicks land within 500 ms.
  • Scroll wheel direction and distance, with a running total. Scrolling inside the area does not scroll the page.

Worked example

Click the left button twice quickly: the Left counter shows 2 and the Double click box lights. Scroll the wheel one notch down: a typical mouse reports about 100 px, shown as “Down 100 px”.

Tips

  • Side buttons. If they do not respond, the mouse driver may use them for other actions.
  • Checking for a failing switch. Click slowly and make sure the counter goes up by one each time.
  • Trackpads send the wheel events too, in smaller steps.

Frequently asked questions

Why does a button not light up?

Either it is not registering or your system maps it to something else. Back and forward side buttons are reported only by mice that have them, and a driver may remap them.

How is a double click detected?

Two left-button presses within 500 milliseconds count as a double click. Your system's own double-click speed setting is separate.

Why does one click count twice?

That is the symptom of a worn switch, called double-clicking. If a single physical click counts twice here, the switch is probably failing.

What do the scroll numbers mean?

The wheel delta in pixels. Some mice report lines or pages instead, which the page converts as 16 px per line and 100 px per page, so values differ between browsers and devices.

Why can't I right-click normally on this area?

The browser menu is turned off inside the test area so a right click can be tested. Outside the area the menu works as usual.
