Video rotator

Choose a video, turn it clockwise or counter-clockwise in steps of 90 degrees, flip it if needed, and record the result. The new size is shown before you start.

Everything happens in your browser. Your files are never uploaded.

Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Choose a video file.
  2. Use Rotate 90° right or left until the angle is what you want, and add a flip if needed.
  3. Check the new size under the buttons, then press Rotate video.
  4. Preview and download.

How it works

Each frame is drawn onto a canvas with the rotation and mirroring applied, and the canvas is recorded together with the sound. The picture is not scaled, only turned.

Worked example

A phone clip recorded sideways at 1920 × 1080 needs one turn of 90 degrees to stand upright as 1080 × 1920.

Tips

  • The tool starts with a 90-degree turn to the right selected, the usual fix for a sideways phone clip. Press Reset for no rotation.
  • The new size under the buttons tells you at once whether the result will be portrait or landscape.

Frequently asked questions

Does a quarter turn change the frame size?

Yes. Width and height swap: a 1920 × 1080 video turned by 90 degrees becomes 1080 × 1920. A half turn keeps the size.

What is the difference between rotating and flipping?

Rotating turns the picture around. Flipping mirrors it, left to right or top to bottom, like a reflection; text in a flipped video reads backwards.

Why does it take as long as the video?

The browser has no built-in way to convert a video file, so the tool plays the clip into a canvas and records the canvas with MediaRecorder. That happens at playing speed: a 1-minute clip takes about a minute (half that at 2x speed). Keep the tab open and visible, because browsers slow down background tabs.

Which file format do I get?

WebM in Chrome, Edge and Firefox, which can be played by those browsers and most players. Safari records MP4 instead. The original format is not kept, because the clip is recorded again from the picture the browser shows.
