Number memory test

A number appears briefly, then disappears. Type it from memory. Each correct answer adds one digit; one mistake ends the run.

Level 1 · Best level: —

Press the button to see your first number.

Your best level is saved only in this browser. Results vary with tiredness and distraction, so treat them as a game, not a medical test.

Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Press the button. A one-digit number appears.
  2. Remember it. After a moment it disappears and a box appears.
  3. Type the number and submit. If you are right, you go to the next level with one more digit.
  4. A wrong answer ends the run and shows the number next to your answer.

How it works

Level n has n digits and is shown for 1000 + 500 × n milliseconds. The answer must match exactly; spaces around it are ignored.

Worked example

Level 4 shows a 4-digit number such as 5271 for 3 seconds. Typing 5271 moves you to level 5; typing 5217 ends the run with 4 digits reached.

Tips

  • Group digits into chunks of two or three while you look.
  • Say the chunks quietly to yourself instead of just looking.

Frequently asked questions

How long is the number shown?

One second plus half a second per digit, so a 1-digit number shows for 1.5 seconds and a 7-digit one for 4.5 seconds.

Is the number really random?

It is generated in your browser with Math.random, with a non-zero first digit so the length is always the level.

Is my best score stored somewhere?

Only in your browser's local storage on this device. Nothing is sent to a server.

Is this a clinical memory test?

No. It is a casual exercise and says nothing about your health.
