CPS test (click speed test)

Choose a time, then click or tap the large area as fast as you can. The test starts with your first click and stops when time is up. You get your clicks per second and your best score of the visit.

How to use it

  1. Pick 1, 5 or 10 seconds.
  2. Click or tap the big area. The timer starts on your first click.
  3. Keep clicking until the time is up. Extra clicks after that are not counted.
  4. Try again resets the test. Your best score for each length is kept while the page stays open.

How it works

Clicks are counted on the press itself, not after the button is released, so a fast double press counts as two. The result is the number of clicks divided by the chosen test length, and the figure under the area updates as you go.

A 1 second test is mostly reaction time and varies a lot; a 10 second test tells you more about your steady speed because the start-up delay is a small part of it.

Worked example

You pick 10 seconds and make 68 clicks: 68 ÷ 10 = 6.8 CPS. In a 5 second test with 41 clicks you would get 41 ÷ 5 = 8.2 CPS, higher because short tests reward a quick burst.

Tips

  • Same conditions. Compare scores only for the same time length and device.
  • Mouse hold. Rest your forearm and click with a relaxed finger; tension slows you down after a few seconds.

Frequently asked questions

How is CPS calculated?

The number of clicks is divided by the length of the test you chose. For example 45 clicks in 5 seconds is 9 clicks per second. It is not based on the time of your last click.

What counts as a click?

Each press of the left mouse button, each tap on a touch screen, and each Space or Enter key press while the area has focus. Right and middle button presses are ignored.

Why are results lower on a phone or trackpad?

Touch screens and trackpads respond differently to rapid repeats, and a touch screen may ignore taps that are too close together. Compare results only on the same device and the same test length.

Is my best score saved?

Only until you close or reload the page. Nothing is stored or sent anywhere.
