Mirror camera

Press Start and allow the camera to see yourself as in a mirror. Use it to check your hair or make-up, or to look at yourself before a video call. The picture goes only from the camera to your screen.

The camera is off. Press Start mirror.

Nothing is recorded, saved or uploaded. The camera turns off when you press Stop or leave the tab.

Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Press Start mirror and choose Allow when asked.
  2. Use Mirror image to switch between a mirror-like picture and the true picture.
  3. Press Full screen to make the picture as big as the screen allows. Press Exit full screen or Escape to return.
  4. Press Stop when you are done; the camera light should go out.

How it works

The page requests the front camera at up to 1280×720 and shows it in a video element. The mirror effect is only a horizontal flip of how the picture is displayed; the camera data itself is not changed. Stopping releases the camera, and so does hiding or leaving the tab.

Tips

  • Face a window for even light; avoid a bright window behind you.
  • If the picture is dark, check that nothing covers the lens or a privacy shutter.
  • On a phone, turn the screen brightness up for a better mirror.

Frequently asked questions

Is anything recorded or uploaded?

No. The camera picture is shown in a video element on this page and nowhere else. There is no recording and no snapshot button, and nothing is sent to a server.

Why is the image mirrored?

A real mirror reverses left and right, so the page flips the picture the same way and it feels natural. Turn off Mirror image to see yourself as other people see you, for example to read text held up to the camera.

How do I use the back camera?

Press Switch camera. On devices with more than one camera the browser then asks for the one facing away from you, which is shown unmirrored. If the device has only one camera, nothing changes.

Does it work in full screen on a phone?

It does where the browser allows full screen for page elements. Some phone browsers do not, in which case the button is not shown and the mirror stays in the page.
