Presentation timer

Set the length of your talk and when the warnings should start. The panel stays green while you have time, turns yellow, then red for the last stretch, and after zero counts the overtime with a plus sign. Put it in full screen on a laptop or tablet facing the speaker, so it can be read from across the room.

Minutes, decimals allowed (0.5 = 30 s). Set a warning to 0 to turn it off.

Talk length

Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.

How to use it

  1. Set the talk length, or press one of the length buttons.
  2. Choose when the yellow and red warnings start, as minutes left. Decimals work: 0.5 is 30 seconds.
  3. Press Start, then Full screen if the speaker needs to see it from a distance.
  4. Pause if the talk is interrupted; press Reset for the next speaker.

How it works

The timer stores the moment the talk should end and shows end − now on every frame, so it does not drift. The color depends on the time left:

Time left Panel
more than the yellow warning green, “On time”
yellow warning or less yellow, “Start wrapping up”
red warning or less red, “Finish now”
zero or less red, blinking, counting overtime

Example

A 10-minute talk with the defaults: the panel shows 10:00 in green. At 02:00 left it turns yellow, at 01:00 left red. If the speaker is still talking 65 seconds after zero, it reads +01:05.

For a 5-minute lightning talk, try yellow at 1 and red at 0.5 minutes.

Tips

  • Agree the colors with speakers beforehand: yellow means “wrap up”, red means “last sentence”.
  • For Q&A, set a separate timer after the talk rather than adding it to the talk length.
  • Keep the device plugged in; some phones dim the screen during long talks unless you change the display settings.

Frequently asked questions

How do the colors work?

Green while more time is left than the yellow warning, yellow from that point, red from the red warning, and red with a blinking clock after zero. With the defaults for a 10-minute talk, the panel turns yellow with 2 minutes left and red with 1 minute left.

Does it keep time if I switch tabs or the screen dims?

Yes. The timer compares against the clock rather than counting ticks, so a background tab does not slow it down. The time left is also shown in the browser tab's title.

How do I show it to the speaker?

Open the page on a laptop, tablet or phone facing the stage and press Full screen. In full screen, Space starts or pauses, R resets and Esc leaves full screen.

What happens when time runs out?

The clock keeps going and counts the overtime, for example +01:05 for one minute five seconds over, so a chair can see how far a speaker has run on. A short beep sounds at zero if the sound is on and the browser allows it.

Can I use it for several speakers in a row?

Yes: press Reset between speakers, or a preset to change the length. Each start counts from the full length again.
