Thai Buddhist calendar converter
Thailand counts years in the Buddhist Era: 2026 CE is 2569 BE. Days and months are the same as in the Gregorian calendar, so only the year changes. Convert a date either way and get it written the way Thai forms and documents use it, also in Thai numerals.

How to use it
- Choose CE → BE and pick a date, or BE → CE and type the BE year, choose the month and type the day.
- Read the converted date. For CE → BE you also get the numeric Thai form and the same in Thai digits.
How it works
- BE = CE + 543 and CE = BE − 543.
- Days and months are unchanged, so 29 February exists in BE years whose CE year is a leap year (2567 BE = 2024 CE).
- The numeric form is day/month/year with two-digit day and month.
Worked example
4 November 2026:
- 2026 + 543 = 2569, so the date is November 4, 2569 BE.
- Numeric: 04/11/2569, in Thai digits ๐๔/๑๑/๒๕๖๙.
The other way: 29 February 2567 BE → 2567 − 543 = 2024, which is a leap year, so the date exists: Thursday, 29 February 2024. 29 February 2569 BE does not exist, because 2026 is not a leap year.
Tips
- Thai visas, contracts and receipts usually show the BE year: check the year before typing a date into a form that expects CE.
- If a year looks about 543 years in the future, it is probably BE.
- For historic dates from January to March before 1941, read the note under the result.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert a Buddhist Era year to a Gregorian year?
Subtract 543: 2569 BE − 543 = 2026 CE. To go the other way, add 543. Since 1941 the Thai year starts on 1 January, so the rule holds for every date of the year.
Are the months and days different?
No. The Thai solar calendar uses the same months and days as the Gregorian calendar, including 29 February in leap years. Only the year number changes.
Why does a document say 2483 for a date in early 1941?
Until 1940 the Thai year began on 1 April. The year 2483 BE was shortened to run from April to December 1940, and 2484 began on 1 January 1941. For January to March of earlier years, old documents use a BE year one lower than CE + 543.
How do Thai people write dates?
Day, month, year, with the BE year: 04/11/2569 or 4 November 2569. Thai digits (๐ ๑ ๒ ๓ ๔ ๕ ๖ ๗ ๘ ๙) are used in some official and formal texts; the converter shows both.
Do other countries use the Buddhist Era?
Several Buddhist countries use Buddhist Era years, but not all count from the same starting year, so their year numbers can differ by one from the Thai count. This tool uses the Thai calendar.
