Retirement date calculator

Type your date of birth and the retirement age you are working towards, in years and, if needed, months. The calculator shows the date you reach that age, its weekday, and how many years, months and days are left from today. The age is yours to enter: rules differ by country, birth year and pension plan.

How to use it

  1. Enter your date of birth.
  2. Type the retirement age in years and, if it includes months, the extra months; or press one of the age buttons.
  3. Read the retirement date, the age shown in words, and the time left from today.

How it works

Retirement date = date of birth + years + months. Months are added on the calendar, keeping the day of the month; when the month is shorter, the date moves to its last day.

Time left is counted from today in whole years, then whole months, then days, the same way an age is counted. The total in days is shown too.

Worked example

Born on 15 June 1970, retirement age 67:

  • 1970 + 67 = 2037, so the date is Monday, June 15, 2037.
  • From 4 November 2026 that would be 10 years, 7 months and 11 days, or 3,876 days. On your device the count starts from your own today.

Born on 31 August 1959 with an age of 66 years and 6 months: 31 August 2025 plus 6 months is 31 February, which does not exist, so the date is 28 February 2026.

Tips

  • Pension ages are set by law or by your plan and are sometimes raised; recheck the age every few years.
  • If you plan to retire early or late, try several ages to compare the dates.
  • For how much you need to save, use the retirement savings calculator alongside this one.

Frequently asked questions

What retirement age should I enter?

The one that applies to you: your state pension age, the normal retirement age of your pension plan or simply the age you plan to stop working. It often depends on your country and your year of birth, and it can change, so check your pension provider or government service.

How is the date calculated?

It adds the years and months to your date of birth. If that day does not exist in the target month, the last day of the month is used: born 31 August, plus 66 years and 6 months, gives 28 or 29 February.

Is this the day my pension is first paid?

Not necessarily. Some schemes pay from the day you reach the age, others from the next day, the start of the next month or a later application date. The calculator shows the day the age is reached.

Why does the time left only appear after the page loads?

It is counted from today's date on your device, so it is worked out in your browser. The retirement date itself does not depend on today.

Can I enter an age with months, like 66 and 8 months?

Yes. Type 66 in the years box and 8 in the months box.
