Tips

Give a kitten a few days before you choose: a name often becomes obvious once you see how it moves and what it does. Pairing two names, such as a classic first name and a funny title, makes a fun full name for the vet’s paperwork.

Frequently asked questions

How are the names made?

Each name is built from word lists written for this tool and a few templates per style, chosen at random in your browser. The classic and cute styles pick from lists of names; funny and regal combine names with puns, titles or epithets. No AI model is involved and nothing is sent to a server.

Why do I sometimes get fewer names than I asked for?

The tool draws distinct names and gives up after a limited number of attempts. A style with few templates can run short on large requests; press the button again or switch style.

Can I be sure a cat name is not already taken or trademarked?

No. The tool does not look anything up, and similar names may already exist. If you need a unique name, search for it first.

What makes a good cat name?

There is no rule, but many owners like a short name with a clear vowel sound that is easy to call. Say it out loud a few times, including in the voice you would use at feeding time, and see if it feels right.
