Worked example
Ada Lovelace: ADA = 1 + 4 + 1 = 6 and LOVELACE = 3 + 6 + 4 + 5 + 3 + 1 + 3 + 5 = 30, so the expression number is 36, then 3 + 6 = 9. The vowels add to 19 and reduce to 1, the consonants add to 17 and reduce to 8.

Frequently asked questions
Is numerology scientific?
No. Numerology has no scientific basis and does not predict or measure personality, luck or the future. This tool is for entertainment and curiosity.
Which method does it use?
The Pythagorean system: A to I are 1 to 9, J to R are 1 to 9 again, and S to Z are 1 to 8. Y is counted as a consonant. Accents are removed and characters outside A to Z are ignored. Numbers are reduced by adding digits until one digit remains, but 11, 22 and 33 are kept as master numbers.
How is the life path number worked out?
The month, the day and the year are each reduced, the three results are added, and the sum is reduced again. For 17 May 1990 that is 5 + 8 + 1 = 14, then 1 + 4 = 5.
Why does another site give a different number?
Numerology has several systems (Chaldean, Pythagorean) and several conventions for master numbers and for the letter Y. Different rules give different numbers; none is more correct than the others.
