Tournament bracket generator
Paste your players, choose whether the bracket follows your order or is shuffled, and click the winner of each match to advance them. If the number of players is not a power of two, the top seeds get byes in the first round.
Runs in your browser: nothing you enter is sent anywhere.
How to use it
- Enter one player per line. In As entered mode the order is the seeding, strongest first.
- Or choose Random and press Shuffle seeding until you like the draw.
- Click the winner of each match. They move to the next round, and the champion appears at the end.
- Print bracket prints only the bracket. Clear results keeps the players but wipes the results.
How it works
The bracket size is the next power of two at or above the number of players. Seeds are placed by the standard rule: seed 1 against the last place, seed 2 in the other half, and so on, so byes land on the top seeds. A first-round match with a bye advances its player automatically. Each later round pairs the winners of neighbouring matches.
Example
Six players need an 8-place bracket. Seeds 1 and 2 have byes, seed 3 plays seed 6 and seed 4 plays seed 5. Two winners join seeds 1 and 2 in the semifinals.
Tips
- On a phone, scroll the bracket sideways to see later rounds.
- Names are compared without regard to capitals, so “Sam” and “sam” count as duplicates.
Frequently asked questions
What happens when the number of players is not a power of two?
The bracket is rounded up to the next power of two (8 for 5 to 8 players, 16 for 9 to 16, and so on). The empty places are byes, given to the top seeds, who move straight to round two. With 6 players, seeds 1 and 2 get byes.
How does seeding work?
With As entered, the first name is seed 1, the second is seed 2, and so on. Seed 1 meets the lowest seed and seed 2 sits in the opposite half, so the two best seeds can only meet in the final. Random shuffles the list first.
What if I change a result after later rounds were played?
Results that depended on the changed match are cleared, because a player who no longer reaches that round cannot still win in it. Results that are still valid stay.
Can I run a double-elimination or round-robin event?
Not here. This tool makes single-elimination brackets only, where one loss ends a player's run. There is no third-place match either.
